Good functions, easy to use but bad display
The GPS’ functions are very good. It shows the lanes and automatically directed us to avoid road construction on highway. However, the display is barely visible under sun light.

A Disappointing Purchase
This GPS does its primary job well: providing directions with an accurate map display to guide the user to a destination. However, there are a number of deficiencies of the unit which detract greatly from its usefulness. Those deficiencies are:

1. The on-screen “keyboard” for keying in addresses is so small that it takes several carefully executed attempts to enter letters accurately. I do not have tremors, large hands, or fat fingers, but I have great difficulty hitting an intended key. And once an incorrect key is hit and autocomplete suggests possibilities, none of which can possibly be correct because of the incorrect entry, the user is required to start from the beginning again.

2. The Bluetooth feature is so weak, it is not useful. Shortly after the cell phone is turned on, the Garmin unit requires a response on the cell phone to allow a Bluetooth connection. Then invariably, usually soon after allowing the Bluetooth connection, the unit indicates that “Bluetooth connection is lost.” In several weeks of attempted use of this feature, it has worked successfully only two times.

3. The suction cup mount is unreliable in hot weather. I have carefully cleaned the windshield and rubber contact surface of the suction cup, but after baking in the hot sun for awhile, the mount and GPS occasionally come crashing down with the entire assembly bouncing off of the dash.

4. The MP3 player works great and is a pleasure to use. However, it does not recognize WMA files. This means that any songs ripped from CD’s using Windows Media Player have to be converted to MP3 format. This is a very time-consuming and tedious process if you already have a large number of songs ripped from CD’s in your Windows Media library.

5. The “traffic” feature of the unit is of no use to me. I an often warned by the announcement “traffic ahead,” but apparently it takes very little congestion to trigger this warning. I have learned to ignore it.

In summary, I am sorry I bought this GPS. If I had it to do over again, I would do without a GPS until I bought a new car with a factory installed unit. My wife has such a unit in her new car, and it has none of the deficiencies I have listed for the Garmin unit. If I felt that I just had to have a GPS before buying a new car, I would buy a basic unit with no “bells and whistles.”

i like it
i bought this 3 mounths ago and i have used it few times.i havent used it outside the state yet.but wherever i used i didnt have problme yet .it get’s the sattelite signals with delay when you turn it on but thats fine by me.

the route guide is a great thing to have .its really usefull .it helps you to see the freeway sign and line’s b4 you get there and tell you witch one to take.

fm trasmiter works great.a bit unclear but if you have casset tape player or ipod ready then you can conect to your car sterio with a wire to hear it with you car speakers.

Garmin GPS
The GPS did a good job finding where I was and recalculating quickly. It did sometimes take me off of main roads to side roads, which I still don’t understand. Thankfully it doesn’t happen often. The system is quick and easy to use, but yet not always intuitive. I have not yet found out how to display additional attributes on the map screen, that I was accustomed to from a model from another manufacturer. I like this system, and what is important to me is it’s quick recalculation as I often travel in and out of congested areas and need quick mapping.

Out of the Box
I don’t know why I never bought a GPS system until now!

Right out of the box it worked like a charm. So easy to set up and use. I haven’t used the “traffic” feature yet so I don’t haven an opinion.

I was researching all types of these systems over the last couple of months. It can be a bit intimidating just how many there are. But after careful research… reading over customer reviews, professional reviews, I feel I picked the best one.

**When it did arrive by UPS however, the box was just about squashed into a mess. I was afraid to even start the GPS thinking that it was damaged during the delivery. I don’t think the driver was expecting me to come to the door as it looked like he was just going to leave it and run. I had paid for a RUSH delivery, it arrived on time, but was surprised I didn’t have to sign for it. What’s up with that?
